Your first semester in Beta Alpha Psi, you will be a candidate. A candidate must meet the following requirements:
Have completed at least 30 semester hours of college credit prior to becoming a candidate
Have declared a major (or have stated an intention to declare a major) in Accounting, Finance or MIS
Have attained a 3.1 grade point average in upper division courses, in the declared area of concentration.
Students who have not yet taken any upper division courses in their concentration must have a 3.1 or higher grade point average in their lower division accounting classes.
Have attained a cumulative grade average of 3.3 or have attained at least a 3.4 cumulative grade average on the most recent 30 hours (The 30 most recent hours requirement will include a total number of semesters needed to reach the 30 credit hour threshold. Students will not be allowed to use only part of the credits from a given semester to meet this credit amount.)
Membership Requirements
If you met the required participation hours during your candidate semester, you will become an initiate for your second semester in Beta Alpha Psi.
If you meet the required participation hours during your initiate semester, you will be initiated as a member (and will become a member of the National Fraternity) at the end of the semester. In addition, you must satisfy the following requirements:
Have achieved a minimum 3.3 overall GPA
Have declared a major in accounting, Finance or MIS
Have completed at least one upper-division Accounting, Finance or MIS class (depending upon your major)
Have achieved a 3.1 GPA in your upper-divison Accounting, Finance or MIS classes (depending on your major)
Each candidate, initiate and member must fulfill the following requirements on professional, service, tutoring and social activities.
Professional Hours
At least three Beta Alpha Psi-sponsored professional programs
A minimum of 10 hours must be reported
All hours are measured in 50-minute hours
Service Hours
At least one Beta Alpha Psi group service activity (Tutoring is not considered a Beta group service activity)
A minimum of 10 hours must be reported
All hours are measured in 50-minute hours
Tutoring Hours
A minimum of 3 BETA hours must be reported (2 tutoring sessions)
Tutoring hours count towards Service Hours requirement
Tutoring is not considered a Beta group service activity, so it will not fulfill that part of the Service requirement
All hours are measured in 50-minute hours
Social Event Requirement
At least one Beta Alpha Psi social activity that strictly does not give hours to attendees
Eligibility Requirements to Re-apply for BAP Membership
You must have a minimum of five (5) professional hours and five (5) community service hours during a given semester to be eligible to reapply in the next semester.
